An Unexpected Power Loss Almost Cancelled New Year's Eve

There was an unexpected 5 hour power outage in Maine over the weekend that almost ruined New Year's Eve for homeowners and businesses. The nearly five-hour outage closed businesses, dimmed traffic lights and many wondered whether New Year’s Eve festivities would proceed as planned. That would have seriously hampered commerce for area businesses.

The New Year’s celebration was to include music performances, childrens activities and more were scheduled to continue throughout the afternoon and evening. The way to keep festivities happening or businesses open during an unplanned power outage is through rental commercial generators.
 
The fault in a transmission line cut power to more than 16,000 customers beginning at about 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
