When the Martha’s Vineyard utility company experienced an underwater cable failure to the island they called on EPS.

Both the high summer power demand and President Obama’s upcoming visit to the Vineyard contributed to the decision to use temporary power on the island.

EPS quickly dispatched 4 MW’s of power and 2 x High voltage transformers to the island. EPS’s engineers handled all logistics for the project including teaming up with a local barge company to get all equipment and personnel over to the island.

If the utility experiences another failure or the power demand becomes excessive the generators can be remotely put on line within minutes. Repairs are expected to take 1-2 months.

On March 28, 2011' Northern Alabama fell victim to a tornado and severe thunderstorms that left a trail of devastation and destruction. Several cities and towns were dismantled and had massive power outages. One of the world’s largest polymer processing facilities was left without power and were faced with serious revenue losses. When the decision was made to source emergency power, ElecComm Power Services (EPS) was contacted.

EPS’ first priority was to resume normal operation as quickly and as cost effectively as possible. EPS assessed the situation and quickly dispatched 10 Megawatts of power, 50,000 feet of cable and EPS’s team of engineers were on site within 8 hours.

EPS assumed all logistical responsibilities, coordinated transportation of all equipment, scheduled fueling, and provided around the clock man power. Ten MW’s of power were in place, tied in, fully fueled and online by 3pm the next day. The equipment powered the plant around the clock for the following 5 days until power was restored.

EPS’ response helped minimize lost production and disruption. EPS has since been requested to visit and prepare a comprehensive emergency power contingency plan for the company’s other 2 processing plants in Mexico and Canada.

Today’s backup availability for infrastructure in the event of a failure is of utmost importance. On Sunday March 6th 2011, a New England based utility company lost a primary feed that powered up one of the local transit authority's substation. One of the cables had been compromised by a local construction contractor who accidentally dug into the cable.

The utility quickly swapped over to its back-up power feed. At the time (Sunday) the back-up feed was sufficient to handle the load of the transportation system, but the back-up feed's capacity would not be able to handle Monday mornings rush hour load.
