ElecComm Power Services Provides Emergency Generated Power to Downtown Boston Area

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, March 15, 2012

Boston firefighters have been battling a smoky, electrical transformer fire in a utility building in Boston's Back Bay, that led to a huge power outage in the downtown area.

Emergency officials said Tuesday night there were no reports of injuries, but one person was taken to a hospital for minor respiratory problems. Fire officials said the smoke wasn't toxic, but people were advised to avoid it.

A local utility spokesman Mike Duran said a problem in one electrical substation spread to a second one. He said the power outage was affecting the Back Bay, Chinatown, the theater district, Kenmore Square and parts of the South End. He said once the damage is assessed the company will begin working to restore power with large generators.

Two hotels and nearby businesses were evacuated. Streets were closed in the area, and subway trains weren't stopping at stations there.

A local utility placed a call to ElecComm Power Services for emergency support.   ElecComm is currently loading in over 30 megawatts of emergency generated power into downtown Boston through miles of cable and many transformers. This is the largest emergency generator powered job in the city’s history . This event is so large a normally busy street that’s clogged with bumper-to-bumper morning traffic “Commonwealth  Avenue” is being used as an EPS equipment staging area. Stay tuned for updates.

Rent or Buy a Commercial Generator

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, June 29, 2011

When problems arise with electricity, it is hard to decide if you should rent a generator or buy one. Obviously, you need to consider the economics of your business in addition to the availability of one in the market.

The first consideration of course, is understanding how much back up power you need on a sustained basis. Once you understand this, you can consider your options for generator rental versus purchasing one. Evaluation of your budget is imperative once you determine that there are generators available with your power output needs. In the scenario that your generator requirements are seasonal it generally makes more sense to rent a generator.

It is possible to rent generators with a power output of 20kW to 2MW. There are super silent generators available for movie production as well as specialized generators for powering your tower in the case of the telecom business.

Rental Generators for Emergency Power Failure

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Well, hurricane season has officially started. Now we don’t often see hurricanes that are too bad in Massachusetts, but we don’t often see massive, destructive tornadoes either, or hail storms in June.  So to kick off hurricane season, we would like to remind you to not get caught unprepared in the event of an unexpected power loss.

When a major storm knocks your power out, emergency generators will keep you up and running and your lights on.

Last week in Greenwich, CT customers were left powerless from a series of CL&P system failures which began with a lightning strike last Wednesday. Repairs were waylaid by two more lightning strikes at the Cos Cob substation on Thursday night and increased demand in the suffocating early summer heat and humidity Friday evening caused further system failures.

During the height of the outages, the town used emergency generators to operate its sewage treatment plants and private customers, including Greenwich Hospital, switched to rented generators. According to Greenwich Hospital spokesman George Pawlush, the hospital used two rental generators for nearly 21 hours between Thursday and Saturday.

Portable rental generators can help you and your business continue to do business even with unexpected power failure. Often time, loss of power is catastrophic for a business, hospital, or municipal building. Call ElecComm for more information.

EPS Dispatches 10 Megawatts of Power to Northern Alabama

Joseph Coupal - Friday, May 13, 2011

On March 28, 2011' Northern Alabama fell victim to a tornado and severe thunderstorms that left a trail of devastation and destruction. Several cities and towns were dismantled and had massive power outages. One of the world’s largest polymer processing facilities was left without power and were faced with serious revenue losses. When the decision was made to source emergency power, ElecComm Power Services (EPS) was contacted.

EPS’ first priority was to resume normal operation as quickly and as cost effectively as possible. EPS assessed the situation and quickly dispatched 10 Megawatts of power, 50,000 feet of cable and EPS’s team of engineers were on site within 8 hours.

EPS assumed all logistical responsibilities, coordinated transportation of all equipment, scheduled fueling, and provided around the clock man power. Ten MW’s of power were in place, tied in, fully fueled and online by 3pm the next day. The equipment powered the plant around the clock for the following 5 days until power was restored.

Renting of Power Equipment Is Easy

Joseph Coupal - Friday, April 22, 2011
Renting of Power Equipment Is Easy

It’s a simple process to go for a rental in respect of any electrical equipment for your business or construction site. Therefore, if your generator refuses to work or if you want the rental of generator for such time as your generator is on maintenance it’s now possible to do so. You may resort to a rental of generator when your requirement is of a temporary nature as in a construction site or a special event venue. You can rent a generator in a very wide range of from 25 kW to 2000 kW capacity. You maybe in the business of producing movies and you may require the generator for that purpose.

You may require a generator for tower power in case you are in the telecom line. Whatever be your line of work, you can hire a generator suited for the task.

Therefore, the generator for your movie production would be absolutely silent in operation while the tower power kind of generator would be an environmentally-friendly generator with a double wall fuel cell for extended runtime. You could order a rental load bank as well. The 1000 kW kind of load bank would not be affected by rain and is rated for outdoor. This load bank is recommended a cool down period though it’s not a compulsion. The 360 kW type of rental load bank is rated for indoors and has a 5 kW resolution. It can go through a standard doorway quite easily and does not require an external power.

Emergency Power Generator Rental

Joseph Coupal - Monday, April 11, 2011

Business owners rent emergency power generators for emergency electric power outages, to supply power within a planned project which would normally compromise commercial power, and most frequently, to meet a short lived rise in energy demand. ElecComm Power is a supplier of back-up generators. In addition to leasing electrical generator equipment, we lease other electrical equipment as well, such as load banks, fuel tanks, transformers and other power cable and distribution panels and accessories.

Load Banks are normally utilized to test power sources to make sure their appropriate function under the true to life conditions that load banks duplicate through making a power load and employing it to a power source. There are a number types of load banks. Electronic load banks, whose power may be developed for exact circuits, so they are ideal for checking circuit breakers, fuse boxes, and robotic transfer switches; resistive, which take out equal amounts of energy from an operating-system, and used for testing power generators; capacitive, which create an increased power factor, and are perfect for testing systems that have horizontal loads; and inductive, which simulate the vitality used by numerous building elements at the same time, and so are perfect for testing voltage regulators and generators.

If you need generators for more than two days, you may want to rent additional diesel powered fuel tanks to power them. ElecComm Power Services provides safe and efficient fuel tanks. We offer single-walled or double-walled skidded tanks. They are available in the following sizes: 500-1000 gallons.

While renting major electric power equipment, it is also common to lease the accessories that are used with them, such as cable ramps, load share panels, cable bins, and cable T's. Although electricity accessories are easy to come by, renting them with the equipment you need ends up costing your business less money.

Generator Rental vs. Purchasing A Generator

Joseph Coupal - Friday, March 25, 2011
Generator Rental

Purchasing a generator could turn out to be an unaffordable thing to do for many people. Yes, it may come as a surprise to you but there are some very high-quality and powerful generators whose price may reach or even be over $10.000. It definitely doesn’t sound like a small amount of money, especially as you keep in mind the fact that most of the people wanting to buy a generator needed for a certain period of time (not permanently). So the generator rental could turn out to be the best thing to do in such cases as it gives the customers many advantages.

First of all, you will save money! No surprise money is mentioned first since the generator rental may be between six and ten times cheaper than purchasing the generator itself. Let’s take a simple example: you need a very expensive generator say for a concert which will be thrown outdoors. Many kilowatts of electricity are needed and you obviously cannot get them by using the utility electricity. Here we come to the powerful generators which will cost you around $10.000 or even more.

Is it really worth spending that much money on a generator which will be needed for no longer than a month, week or even a day?! Of course, it’s not. So the generator rental would certainly be the best thing to do in a situation like that.

As it has been mentioned, a brand new generator would cost $10.000 but if you are lucky enough to come across a good bargain, you may rent such a generator for $1.000 per month or even less. Saving $9.000 is definitely not a minute to be neglected!

But what stops many people from doing it, is that they are afraid of being cheated or being given a generator of low-quality. However, those worries are unfounded since you can rent a generator of high quality. The only thing which makes it different is that somebody else has rented before. So it’s like getting a used generator but still much cheaper! Furthermore, if the generator rental is not fully working or causes problems, you can always complain and get your money back as long as your complaint is founded of course. If you want to minimize the possibility of renting a generator of bad quality or at too high rate, visit a couple of sellers offering the service of generator rental.
