Winter is Here, Make your Emergency Power Plan Now

Joseph Coupal - Monday, December 19, 2011

The first day of winter is in a couple days. With the winter come wind, freezing rain, and snow that brings with it…power outages. Power outages mean a need for generators for your business. But which generator should you rent to meeet the demands of your business?

Consider if your business needs an automatic generator or a manual generator, and how much wattage you need. A manual or portable generator is a temporary solution, providing up to 8000W per unit. These are hooked up to your business and they can be turned On or Off to you’re your businesses demands.

There are also automatic generators for rent. These are a more permanent and powerful solution, giving you somewhere 7KW to 20KW. Automatic generators are wired to your business and turn on automatically in the event of a power outage. This is the perfect solution for emergency power solutions for those operations that need electricity for critical support.

Investigating generator rentals, and putting an emergency power plan into place before it is needed can help your business succeed in the winter; contact ElecComm Power.

The Cost of Portable Emergency Power Supply Rental Depends on Several Factors

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, August 18, 2011

We don’t often give electricity much thought until we don’t have it. In these situations, especially in business, consider Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS) rentals.

When commercial electricity is unavailable, when commercial electricity is difficult to supply, and when an emergency generator is offline ElecComm Power is the EPSS supplier in New England and New York.
Companies and organizations that need emergency power supply services need to consider generator rentals.

When comparing generator rental prices, be sure you are comparing apples to apples. The cost includes: the type of fuel, pickup or delivery, the length of the contract, the voltage, and any special features. Keep in mind that a unit that uses natural gas, or a natural gas and diesel mixture, instead of pure diesel will be more economical. When the equipment is needed long-term your best option is a lease agreement instead of a rental contract.

Keep in mind too that the size or type of the unit you need is entirely dependant on your voltage requirements. A unit that is too small can result in power failure or unsafe situations; a unit that is too large is just a waste of money. Be sure to consult with ElecComm Power when considering your generator needs.

Rental Generator Allows Restaurant to Remain Open Despite Sudden Loss of Power

Joseph Coupal - Friday, July 22, 2011

A 25 foot section of wall collapsed in Dorchester Saturday morning.

The unexpected collapse took down electrical lines, knocking out power to the adjacent Venezia Restaurant.

The warehouse wall collapsed in the wrong direction during the demolition in the Port Norfolk section of Dorchester bringing down power lines but causing no injuries, according to the Boston Fire Department.

Venezia Waterfront Restaurant at 20 Ericsson St., is adjacent to the one-story wood warehouse being demolished.

NSTAR brought in an emergency generator to power up the restaurant which had a large function scheduled.  The rental generator was provided by ElecComm Power Services in Hyde Park.

An employee at Venezia Waterfront Restaurant said the restaurant power was restored by the rental generator and was open for business while NSTAR repaired the lines. Venezia was also able to host its three scheduled functions because of the emergency generator despite the surprise loss of power.

Rental Generators are Necessary in Many Industries

Joseph Coupal - Friday, July 08, 2011

In a number of cases, it is an economically sound idea to rent a generator rather than purchase one. And the uses for rental generators span all industries.

Special Events:

If you are running special events on a rotating basis at various locations it makes sense to order rental generators at the new location rather than carting one all over the place. Another obvious advantage is not having to pay for maintenance in case there's a breakdown.

Construction:
Additionally, in construction work, if you are starting on a new site, a rental generator can be delivered to the site. By renting at the start of each job, you save on capital expenses and maintenance, as well as saving yourself the trouble of storing and moving a generator.

Movie Production:

If your business is movie production, there are generators for that specifically that are very quiet.

Telecom:
There are tower power generators available to rent if you are in the telecom sector.

As far as the various sizes of generators, you can get rental generators for different types of applications with varying power outputs. You can hire generators that deliver 25 kW to 125 kW output and those that can deliver between 20kW to 2MWpower output. While the rental generators up to 125 kW rating have electronic governors, the 2000 kW output generator is the quietest generator set you would come across.

Rent or Buy a Commercial Generator

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, June 29, 2011

When problems arise with electricity, it is hard to decide if you should rent a generator or buy one. Obviously, you need to consider the economics of your business in addition to the availability of one in the market.

The first consideration of course, is understanding how much back up power you need on a sustained basis. Once you understand this, you can consider your options for generator rental versus purchasing one. Evaluation of your budget is imperative once you determine that there are generators available with your power output needs. In the scenario that your generator requirements are seasonal it generally makes more sense to rent a generator.

It is possible to rent generators with a power output of 20kW to 2MW. There are super silent generators available for movie production as well as specialized generators for powering your tower in the case of the telecom business.

Rental Generators for Emergency Power Failure

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Well, hurricane season has officially started. Now we don’t often see hurricanes that are too bad in Massachusetts, but we don’t often see massive, destructive tornadoes either, or hail storms in June.  So to kick off hurricane season, we would like to remind you to not get caught unprepared in the event of an unexpected power loss.

When a major storm knocks your power out, emergency generators will keep you up and running and your lights on.

Last week in Greenwich, CT customers were left powerless from a series of CL&P system failures which began with a lightning strike last Wednesday. Repairs were waylaid by two more lightning strikes at the Cos Cob substation on Thursday night and increased demand in the suffocating early summer heat and humidity Friday evening caused further system failures.

During the height of the outages, the town used emergency generators to operate its sewage treatment plants and private customers, including Greenwich Hospital, switched to rented generators. According to Greenwich Hospital spokesman George Pawlush, the hospital used two rental generators for nearly 21 hours between Thursday and Saturday.

Portable rental generators can help you and your business continue to do business even with unexpected power failure. Often time, loss of power is catastrophic for a business, hospital, or municipal building. Call ElecComm for more information.

Local Ship Yard needs a Portable Generator to Keep Vessel Dehumidification System Running

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, June 09, 2011

Naval and shipping vessels battle humidity both in dock and at sea. An environment with both high levels of humidity and salinity can create an aggressive agent that can cause electrical failures and/or mechanical damage in a multitude of areas around the ship. This extremely corrosive environment can affect the operation of the sensors, weapon and command systems and propulsion systems of any ship adversely affecting their operational readiness.

Ships at sea and in dry dock need always have their dehumidification system running to prevent such ship board environments.

At a Local shipyard in New England, a vessel docked for maintenance and repairs. The shipyard did not have an adequate power supply to feed the ship's dehumidification system while in port. ElecComm Power Services has been called on to provide a 500kw generator to support this shipyard while this ship is in port. The portable generator will run continuously for 30 days as a supplemental power source while the ships repairs are made.

Many Industries can Benefit from Generator Rentals

Joseph Coupal - Monday, May 23, 2011

You can actually power your business on rented generators. Generator rentals are very economical as are rentals for heaters, chillers and load banks. It's not only emergencies, such as a power deficit, that create the need to rent a generator. Economically, in the case of a special event venue that would run for several days or a month it would only make sense to rent a generator rather than purchase one. A generator can be rented for virtually any specification and for any conceivable task and the terms are easy.

There are many situations and occasions when you may need a generator for rent. Such situations are based on your business. An office building may need a rental generator as a backup. Or, in the case of a hospital or a hotel, a generator is often needed as backup support. An ICU may need a generator to function as the main source of power supply during natural disasters or the in an environment where there is the potential to lose power since there can be no risk a power failure. Construction sites often require generators for hire as well since there may not be a ready power source at the location of the job site. Several small and large industries require generator rentals to keep them going on a regular basis such as the movie industry or the tower power generators for the telecom industry.

Rental generators are available in the power output range between 20kW to 2MW. These are fitted with systems for both emergency and safety shut down systems and can survive a hostile environment or inclement weather conditions.

Emergency Power Generator Rental

Joseph Coupal - Monday, April 11, 2011

Business owners rent emergency power generators for emergency electric power outages, to supply power within a planned project which would normally compromise commercial power, and most frequently, to meet a short lived rise in energy demand. ElecComm Power is a supplier of back-up generators. In addition to leasing electrical generator equipment, we lease other electrical equipment as well, such as load banks, fuel tanks, transformers and other power cable and distribution panels and accessories.

Load Banks are normally utilized to test power sources to make sure their appropriate function under the true to life conditions that load banks duplicate through making a power load and employing it to a power source. There are a number types of load banks. Electronic load banks, whose power may be developed for exact circuits, so they are ideal for checking circuit breakers, fuse boxes, and robotic transfer switches; resistive, which take out equal amounts of energy from an operating-system, and used for testing power generators; capacitive, which create an increased power factor, and are perfect for testing systems that have horizontal loads; and inductive, which simulate the vitality used by numerous building elements at the same time, and so are perfect for testing voltage regulators and generators.

If you need generators for more than two days, you may want to rent additional diesel powered fuel tanks to power them. ElecComm Power Services provides safe and efficient fuel tanks. We offer single-walled or double-walled skidded tanks. They are available in the following sizes: 500-1000 gallons.

While renting major electric power equipment, it is also common to lease the accessories that are used with them, such as cable ramps, load share panels, cable bins, and cable T's. Although electricity accessories are easy to come by, renting them with the equipment you need ends up costing your business less money.
